tommee tippee spill proof drink cup: YES!

December 16, 2011 By Lena

Last month, I had the pleasure of jetting down to NYC for a tommee tippee North America press event.

I know, #dreamgig.

But more than the glitz and glamour of New York, and the awesome chance to learn about one of the hottest brands to come over from jolly ol’ England, I must say…

I fell in love with tommee tippee. So much, I *briefly* considered having a third. Oh yes, my ovaries were aching.

I remember sitting in the incredibly stylish Manhattan loft thinking – how can I ever cram all this goodness into one post? There are so many über-clever features to each product, it would be a shame to lump them all into a generic review with a smattering of random photos.

Therefore, I’ve decided to pick out my favourite items, and dammit – I’m going to convince you to buy them. And so I’ve spent the better part of a month getting familiar with their best-selling (and most loved) infant and toddler products, and you can look forward to more reviews over the next few weeks.

Yes, I was sent a whack of stuff to check out. No, I’m not being paid a cent to be such an enthusiastic #fangirl. Just happen to think this brand is tops.

Let’s get the ball rolling with their truly spill proof drinking cups. I know, I know – hearing the term “spill-proof” normally brings to mind memories of sucking the bejesus out of your toddler’s sippy cup in the hopes of getting a few drops of liquid. Or, irritable toddlers who throw the silly thing back at you in frustration. But I suppose it’s much better than the alternative – cups labeled “spill-proof” that actually leak like sieves while the little one still can’t seem to get the right flow.

I hate sippy cups.

Or so I thought until I was introduced to the explora cup range. Get this: they’re clever. Unlike other valve systems, tommee tippy cups have an active sensor valve which is designed by a physicist (!) to be both incredibly sensitive that liquid flows on demand, yet truly spill and leak proof. In other words, instead of studying sub-atomic structures, one dude was assigned the sippy cup project. And I say: thank you, dude!

Now I wouldn’t have believed it myself, but I actually participated in a sippy cup challenge. Seriously, blindfold and everything! I was given two drinking cups to test out for myself – a tommee tippee spill-proof trainer and another popular brand. The popular brand was very familiar to me – it was the same one I tossed in the garbage after Ryder tossed it at my head in frustration. Who drinks from these things?

Next, I was passed a cup that was quite likely the most enjoyable drinking cup experience I’d ever had. The liquid flowed! It really, really flowed! And when I turned the cup over… nothing. Beverages on demand and not all over the table? Yes please. It was, of course, the tommee tippee trainer.

tommee tippee has an entire range of explora spill-proof drinking cups; everything from sippies to straw cups and water bottles. Ryder loves taking his spill-proof drink cup when he’s on the go; I love that I don’t have to run behind him with a wad of paper towels. In fact, he was only too happy to demo the effectiveness of his favourite cup:

In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that it wasn’t *entirely* leak-proof; some juice did make it onto the coffee table during the first take, which is why I kept the level of liquid quite low. Of course, Ryder normally does not shake the bottle like he’s trying to exorcise a demon, so we’re usually all good. I guess it’s “spill-proof”, not “shake-your-money-maker-proof”. But much, much more important to me is the truly comfortable drinking experience every time, and the fact that he doesn’t have to hollow out his cheeks à la Kate Moss to have a drink.

More tommee tippee fun to come! In the meantime, if your little ones drink from sippy or straw cups, run to your nearest Babies r Us, who exclusively carry the line in Canada.

Adorable! Josh figured out how to make a total disaster with every single sippy cup I’ve bought him. I finally started him on a real cup at 18 months b/c I was tired of the clean up. But there are many moments where I’d love a spill-proof sippy for him. I’ll head to Babies R Us after the Christmas rush to get one! I’m sure that trip to NY was amazing, what an opportunity!

It was! And I think you’ll love tommee tippee cups. Quite honestly, the flow of liquid is just ridiculously good when you consider it’s spill-proof as well. Let me know what you think!

Where were these little beauties when my girls were babes! Guess my spoiled little nephew shall reap the rewards. Pretty sure he is just going to be a spiller, not a shake your Money Maker! Love it!

Oh my – he is a doll!! What a cute video!

I too hate HATE sippy cups with a passion. Yet when I found one that actually didn’t leak like it claimed, I sang from the rooftops. Finding one is every Mom’s mission – thanks for sharing!!!

My pleasure! I know tommee tippee may not have been on your radar when you were looking at sippy cups, but something to pass on to new moms for sure!

I loved Tommee Tippee as I was researching which bottle Derek would finally take (he never did) and was happy to invest in the Closer to Nature line since the bottles were interchangeable with most of the other Closer to Nature and Explora products. Transitioning him to the straw cups now and am very happy with the no-spill valve!

So happy to hear from a satisfied customer! And yes, love that you can interchange between bottles – so important, because new moms have other things to spend money on besides stacks of bottles and cups!

First off – your offspring is seriously the cutest thing I’ve seen since sending my own spawn to bed!! Wowzah!

Secondly – I give treats for “no spills”, lol. Who knew one single smartie could get a kid to do so many things!!

Aw, Cee – thanks. Really proud of the little guy; he did the video in just two takes. And I fully endorse treats :)
