Before the holidays, I had the enviable opportunity to check out some of the hottest products from Sephora’s Holiday 2011 Collection. Besides the Sephora by OPI Holiday Mini Blockbuster Set, which I labelled my most favourite stocking stuffer of the season, I also was able to get my hands on:
Sephora Color Wand for Lips
Sephora Collector’s Edition I.T. Brush Set
NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette
… and more.
I’ll try to squeeze in a few reviews before long – especially the NARS palette (heaven!!!) – but for the moment, I want you to run to your nearest Sephora for the Ultra Shine Mini Lip Gloss Set. A $67 value, it’s on sale for just $11.00! (Online; in-store $17)
So why exactly do I love this set? Simply put, it marries the best of sparkle, shine and moisturizing goodness, all in convenient, easy to tote packaging. Think of it as “lip balm meets dazzle gloss”.
And while the set is obviously suited to holiday soirees, I can easily picture myself wearing these shades all year round, especially since I tend to prefer shiny puckers over matte or creme shades (sooo boring).
Here’s what you need to know:
This collection of mini lip glosses (four of which are only available in this set) makes lips shiny, moist, and soft. Its range of gloss effects includes multi-holigraphic shimmer, sheer high-shine, smooth shimmer, and creamy comfort.
This set contains 8 x 0.1 oz lip glosses in:
– She Sparkles (gold shimmer)
– Sassy Soiree (red with gold sparkle) – exclusive
– Fresh Peach Shimmery (shimmering golden peach)
– Perfect Nude (sheer neutral beige shine)
– Pop Princess (creamy pink shine) – exclusive
– Pink Diamond (baby pink with sparkle) – exclusive
– Purple Red (raspberry with opalescent shimmer)
– Cinnamon Spice (burgundy with smooth shimmer) – exclusive
What else you need to know:
The hourglass-shaped applicator includes a soft flocked tip that applies just the right amount of gloss. A special ultra-hydrating complex keeps lips moist. The small size of each gloss makes it the perfect as a stocking stuffer or gift.
I am quite frankly in love with the applicator. A cross between a brush and a sponge tip, it truly does dispense the perfect amount of gloss and has a general feeling of bathing your lips in moisture. I’ve been rocking Pink Diamond the entire festive season – in fact, I was stopped while Boxing Day shopping at Superstore and asked to relinquish the brand/colour of the lip gloss I was wearing! It’s the perfect baby pink with sparkle!
The only shade I am less than enthused about is Perfect Nude; a creamy, pale neutral beige – it imparts zero shine and could likely be used as a concealer for those in the NC35 skin tone range. I really don’t see its place in a set full of vibrant, sparkly shades – the hue is very anti-holiday, and very JLo circa 2002.
In fact; after taking the above photo, I tossed it out. #sorrysephora
Nevertheless, at just $11.00 and rated 4.4 out of 5 based on 75 reviews, this is one of my top Boxing Week picks. I am looking forward to enjoying the bling-y shades all year round; in fact, if you see me in March with dewy, shiny lips, be sure to ask which one I’m rocking :)
Awesome I will have to see if we have a Sephora close by. I have found the gloss love recently and would love to add more color.
I am addicted to gloss! I haven’t worn lipstick in over 10 years but hoard lip glosses like they’re going out of style. LOVE these!
That really is a bargain! I’ve read a lot about these Sephora glosses recently (not the box set, just the individual ones) and they’re meant to be very pigmented and moisturising.
Can’t wait to read about the NARS blush palette – they’ve got every shade covered!
You nailed it – very pigmented and moisturizing for sure. I can actually skip the lip balm on days when I wear these glosses – love, love, love them!
Welcome back! Hope you had an amazing Christmas!!
Very pretty colours! I love having a large selection of small items to choose from, depending on my mood.
Thanks honey, and season’s greetings to you too lovely! I like what you said – a large selection of pretty little things. Describes it perfectly.
Not sure when this was good until, but I just paid $17 +tax in Quebec.
Hmmm… wondering if the $11 is US only? (Sephora likes to charge us more even when the dollar is at par). Will call my nearest store and investigate. Though.. still an awesome deal! You MUST tell me how you like them!
The sales is still on but Canadian in the store shoppers pay more.
I bought this set yesterday too from the Eaton Centre location. There were a handful left, and it was also $17. I asked why it showed $11 on the website and was told thats the US price but if you buy it online you pay $11 and then pay the conversion which is $11.23 CDN dollars. Seems really unfair that Sephora charges different prices in the store vs online
Thanks for the tip Jenny! I normally buy from Sephora.com for this very reason; when you factor the free shipping on orders over $75, plus the fact that you pay the conversion – NOT the inflated Canadian price – it just makes more sense to shop that route. However, it only works when the items are in stock :(
Just $11.00 is a steal! I’d better hurry in to Sephoras and hope the sale is still on. I love the glossy look.
Hurry in! Just note that you’ll be paying $17 in-store :)
GOT IT! WHOOT! Grabbed it from the Eaton Centre too! What a great buy, thank you Lena!
Awesome! Let me know what you think!
:( my daughter wanted it so badly – i missed it due to being busy with my younger one. So sad, it is out of stock at sephora. Does anyone have 2 sets they bought? I can pay you if you ship it to me to california :) My 13 yr old will be very happy!
I think it’s sold out everywhere Jay :( Hope you can find one!
I love mini lip gloss sets because I have never in history used a full tube!
