New Betty Crocker Cookbook! (Giveaway!)

October 7, 2011 By Lena

This lady needs no introduction. It’s Betty, b*tch!

One of the most iconic and trusted names in the food industry – and your kitchen – Betty has been helping North American families to dish it up for over 90 years. In fact, leafing through a well-loved Betty Crocker Cookbook is one of the first memories I have; no doubt igniting a life-long love of cuisine.

Do you remember selecting your first recipe to try? Skimming down the list of ingredients; figuring out measurements, and saying a quick prayer that it’d turn out alright? I do. And Betty was right there with me. In fact, Betty Crocker has released over two hundred cookbook titles (!!!) and sold millions of books throughout the world.

Chances are, you’ve had your own “Betty Moment” too.

And so I’m ridiculously excited to share some BIG news: there is a NEW addition to the Betty Crocker cookbook collection: “The New Edition of the Big Red Cookbook”. It’s (lovingly) crammed full of 1500 recipes! I’d like to think that answers the “What’s for Dinner?” question once and for all… or at least for the next four years. (Click the link above for a sneak peek.)

And if that wasn’t enough, along with the printed version, there will also be 400 new Betty Crocker recipes added to the Life Made Delicious website along with close to 100 brand new videos. Yup, ol’ Betty has been hard at work!

I’ve already taken a quick looksee (who can resist!) and am quite enamored with  these Shrimp and Dill Toasts:

16 slices (1/2 inch thick) baguette French bread
1/3 cup chives-and-onion cream cheese spread (from 8-oz container)
1/3 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
8 cooked large shrimp, peeled (tail shells removed), cut in half lengthwise
16 sprigs fresh dill weed

Heat oven to 350°F. Place bread slices on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 5 minutes. Turn slices over; bake about 7 minutes longer or until crisp and very light brown. Cool.

Spread each toast with 1 teaspoon cream cheese spread; top with 1 teaspoon bell pepper and half a shrimp. Top with 1 sprig dill weed. Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate up to 1 hour.

The Betty Crocker Cookbook is valued at approximately $35.99 and will be available through Amazon, Indigo and Chapters, BettyCrocker.com and Wiley Publishing. I can’t wait to get my hands on this cookbook – and I’ve got a copy to give away to a lucky reader too!

Simply jump online and choose your favourite new recipe from Life Made Delicious and Betty Crocker for a chance to win! Then, leave a comment here telling us which meal makes your mouth water. Good luck!

I am part of the Life Made Delicious Blogger program and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

LOVE LOVE LOVE cookbooks and I have a BC cookbook from my grandmother which I use all the time (although it's so old, there are still handdrawn illustrations!).I'm a do-it-yourself gal, but as a working mom of 3, I'll definitely head to the Slow Cooker Suppers. Going to try the Mediterranean Chicken Marbella.

So many things to love!! I have to try the Chicken-Artichoke Pasta With Herbs. I order something similar at my favourite Italian restaurant and it's to-die-for!I also love the Vegetarian chapter – we've been eating less meat and I'm always looking for delish recipes. And I'm very happy to see lots of gluten-free recipes – can't wait to give them a try!My first Betty Crocker cookbook looks like it's been through a war zone…or possibly baked itself! But it's helped me so much. I always refer to the food storage pages, especially when freezing meat. There is so much helpful information in these cookbooks, beyond amazing recipes!

I don't have a BC cookbook, but would love to have one. Chapter 4 on breads would be something I'd start with as I'd like to start making bread more often. So far I've just had experiments!
