I’ve noticed that Mommy Bloggers everywhere are sharing their labour stories today. So I thought I’d follow suit…
Ryder: After “early” labouring for 28 hours and not progressing past 3.5cm dilated, I decided to pray for swift death. God answered my prayer in His own fashion: I dilated to 8cm in just under 30 minutes. By the time we made it back to the hospital I was told it was too late to have an epidural. FML. It took about one more hour to dilate to 10cm, and with every contraction I once again prayed for swift death. Instead, I gave birth to a weird looking, screaming little being. I now recommend strong pain management to everyone.
Number of Stitches: You don’t really want to know that, do you?
Outcome: Priceless
Reid: I walked into the hospital on a pre-determined day and had a scheduled c-section. My hair was done, my teeth were brushed and I pitied all the labouring woman waddling by me. Sixteen minutes after I was administered a spinal anesthetic I “gave birth” to a perfectly shaped, cooing little being.
Total Labour Time: 0 hours
Number of Stitches: 10
Outcome: Priceless
In a funny way, I think it’s cool that I was able to experience both ends of the spectrum: a natural vaginal birth and a drugged-up c-section. If you’re wondering which one I recommend, see “Total Labour Time.”
Happy Labour Day!
Wow, natural delivery, Good for you! You're braver than I was!
I woke up at 1am when my waters broke. My partner talked me into thinking I'd probably peed myself, so I went back to bed and had a good night's sleep. Had a quick checkup at hospital the next day, and there was definitely something happening. Went into labour at 8pm, baby arrived at 1am… also too fast for pain relief. Natural all the way! Ouchie! Anna @ Bargainmoose :)
@Bargainmoose – LOL! Your partner must have really wanted those zzz's to convince you that it was pee, ha ha ha! Great story! (Ouchie is right!)
Oh ladies, it's ALL ABOUT THE DRUGS! I went straight to the hospital and demanded drugs at the first sign of pain. I wasn't taking chances.
Oh I will definitely be asking for drugs as soon as I feel a twinge, next time! I kept asking last time, but the labour went too fast to give me any!Anna @ Bargainmoose
Its relieving to me that you would choose a c-section over natural birth. I had my son with a midwife…no drugs…and surived through it with no stitches!! Baby to be is breech so its looking like a c-section at this point and I am terrified of being "awake" while being cut open!!!
@Amanda – I think I healed well from the c-section because I was expecting it and was well prepared for the postpartum period. The actual surgery is a breeze – you'll be done in literally minutes and won't feel a thing :)
