Yes, you read correctly. I’m blogging about Salon Selectives – a product unceremoniously banished to the second-last shelf in drugstores. A product so consistently shunned in favour of cooler, more expensive brands. A product that smells (reeks?) of granny smith apples. I am blogging about Salon Selectives “Stay Put” Hairspray and I am 100%, positively recommending it.
Why? Because it’s a kick ass hairspray, that’s why. I’ve been using it for – oh gosh am I really admitting this? – TWELVE years. And anyone who knows me will tell you I’ve had kick ass hair for the last twelve years. In fact, I’m so loyal to this brand, I brought it along on my wedding day and asked the stylist to use it instead of her $36.00 designer spray. Now that’s trust!
2. Provides flexible, movable hold (never stiff or sticky)
3. Washes out completely leaving no residue behind
4. Retails for $2.34 (!!!) at Walmart
And since I truly thought I was the last person on the planet still using this stuff, what I want to know is: Where are the rest of my comrades with apple-scented hair? Let’s create a Facebook group!
uhm…I thought Salon Selectives went under as of two months ago!!! I went 4 different wal-marts to buy my mousse on multiple occasions and they didn’t have a single Salon Selectives product… i have to tell you that i’m not a huge wal-mart shopper. I actually HATE going but the only reason i was going was for my hair mousse (i don’t use hairspray). It’s the best mousse for curly hair…i have since tried the herbal essence, pantene and dove and they all suck!!! So if you find my mousse (the one for curly hair) can you please buy it for moi? :)By the way, i love the smell….perhaps i just got used to it after using it for decades!
I am witness to Char’s beauful hair over the last 15 years or so. I don’t think that I have ever seen her with a bad hair day! I had no idea that you used Salon selectives Char – thanks for outing yourself to the world :)Ing – I stopped using mouse years ago I use “John Freida Dream Curls” and it works wonders for my mop of curls – but yeah if I find a mousse I will let you know! Or my latest curly hair technique is to go to sleep with my hair damp and use nothing and I wake up with beautiful curls hehe
Alas, yes, you’re right Ing – they went under in the States, but they are still being distributed by Unilever in Canada. I actually have only seen the hairspray for the longest time (no mousse sightings, sorry) so it appears that for the moment, they are providing at least that one item for sale. I keep forgetting to stock up just in case – but if I ever come across the mousse, I’ll clear the shelf for you if I have to!RE: John Freida Dream Curls – I second your recommendation, Rubes. An excellent product!!!
I too, have been a faithful user of Salon Selectives "Stay Put" hairspray too. I can no longer find it anywhere (used to pick up at Walmart). Does anyone know what happened to their products? I haven't found anything remotely like their hairspray since & certainly not in the same price-range. Help!
Anonymous: If you're Canadian, I've found SS products at none other than Dollarama! Last week I saw both the hairspray and volumnizing mousse for $1. I definitely stocked up!
Hey Guys,My mom loves the stay put pump hair spray and I can't find it anywhere for her. Someone said you can get it at Dollarama, is this true?
I can't believe I found a blog on Salon Selectives. But sure enough I am another fan searching the internet for a way to buy some. I had stocked up a few months ago and just went to Walmarts to restock when much to my shock I was told it was a discontinued item. I had been using the Stay Put in the purple can. I have never used a better hair spray and cannot believe they don't make it any more. Typical…every time there is a great product, it disappears from the market place.
OH my gooodness! there are others out there that share my love for salon selectives! i have been going through monhs of crappy hair lol because I can't find another hairspray. Sooo I went to that well.ca site and bought 12 bottles! thanks so much for the link!
For anyone looking, here's the link to well.ca, where you can find Salon Selectives products! And, if you live in Canada, they'll ship for FREE!http://well.ca/brand/salon-selectives.html?affid=LENA
Cassiethatsme: so glad you were able to grab a bunch of bottles! It's the best hairspray EVER!
I JUST PHONE WELL.CA AND THE LATEST IS THE SALON SELECTIVE DID NOT GO UNDER, IT WAS BOUGHT BY ANOTHER MANUFACTURER AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY PUTTING IT BACK ON THE MARKET, WALMART AND THE LOCAL DRUGSTORES JUST HAVENT ORDERED IT YET. IT IS STILL CALLED SALON SELECTIVE – AND YOU CAN BUY ON WELL.CA A MAX OF 12 OF THEM RIGHT NOW – FREE SHIPPING IF YOU LIVE IN CANADA – YEAH FOR ME!
Well, you have made my day! I went all over Red Deer Alberta today, trying to find my favorite hairspray, and nobody had it…I bought a couple of other brands to try, and they are pretty lame. So, I thank you for letting people know about Well.caI have a dozen cans of hairspray coming and even my husband is happy, though he would never admit that he uses it!
Auntie Shankshuary: So happy you found the secret stash at Well.ca!
I am 34 years old and yes I admit I am a Salaon Selectives Stay Put crack head!!! I love the stuff and typically clean out the shelf when I do find it. Havent found it now for 3-4 months and I am down to my last two cans :(It was bought out by Unilever after purchasing Helene Curtis Industries. Check this out, http://www.happi.com/articles/2009/06/online-exclusive-salon-selectives-makes-a-comebackIt has been rebranded to a red can so keep your eyes open.
Hi Ladies, I am very happy to have come across other Salon Selectives lovers! I too have been struggling to buy this stuff; but now I can stock up thanks to you ladies! Woo Hoo, good hair days here I come!
I thought I was crazy to be so sad when I couldn't find SS hairspray any more! I can't believe there's more of me out there..lol…Thanks for the well.ca tip. I just placed my order. Ya!!!
I too am addicted to Salon Selectives stay put and have been using it for over 21 years! As soon as I noticed it dwindling in supply i hoarded every single can i could find and just ran out shortly before i found it in the red cans….HOWEVERHas anyone noticed that it isn't the same??? I have the remainder of one old purple can of it at work and find that i have to fix my hair everyday after using the red can. It holds but seems very wet and takes a long time to dry which wrecks my style each time. just curious if anyone else has found that too. I came across this post looking to contact the company directly. Its a shame that a hairspray that is hands down the best that i have ever used (i'm a self proclaimed hair product whore!!!)is not there for me anymore. I have bought every other brand i can find including salon brands that i paid over $30 a can for and nothing compares to it. Its like losing a friend!
It's now Jan 30th and has anyone found the hair spray in the stores yet?? confess people……….. which stores???

I too must admit it is the only hairspray I have used since I was twelve, I'm 33 now. I have been on a mission this past few weeks searching for the hairspray and as you all know no luck. I am going to order some from well.ca tonight. I am so glad I found this site. Thank you ladies!
The only hairspray I have used since I'm a teenager. Thanks for the reference to well.ca, I just ordered the one and only hairspray I love! Merci à well.ca d'offrir le fixatif Selection Salon!
