Marc Jacobs Beauty: An Interesting Conundrum

September 16, 2013 By Lena 41 Comments

A few weeks ago, I featured Marc Jacobs Beauty on my Monday Covet List. Sold exclusively at Sephora, the line encompasses his trademark mix of youth, confidence and experimentation. With hues inspired by couture and embodied in sleekly designed cases (with the calling card: MARC JACOBS emblazoned across the collection), the products are the epitome of covet-worthiness.

Well, as it turns out, the beautiful thing about the Internet is that sometimes, your Fairy Godmother appears when you least expect it. And my Fairy Godmother’s name is Sephora. She read my Monday Covet List, and decided that I shouldn’t simply covet the items from afar. Hence, a chariot arrived (we’ll call it UPS) and presented me with gorgeous pieces from the Marc Jacobs Beauty collection.

(Will somebody please tell me when it’s midnight? I don’t want this fairy tale to end.)

But once I received the products, I realized that I had an interesting conundrum on my hands. You see, the items are so stunning, so breathtaking, I simply cannot bear to – gasp – use them. Instead, I’ve been appreciating their sheer and utter beauty with a reverence normally reserved for Crown jewels. And I *may* have reorganized my entire bathroom vanity to showcase the cosmetics in all their splendour and glory.

Alas! The items are begging to be swatched and sampled; whispering promises of rich, sumptuous colour, instant color payoff and long-lasting plush performance. And I’ll do it. I’ll review them the way they’re meant to be reviewed. But in the meantime, can we all just pause for a moment to appreciate the sublime artistry?

Get smitten with this fresh take on nail enamel. Inspired by Marc’s highly lacquered coffee table, Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer is formulated with patented bonding agents that deliver a plasticized, wet look, while the color-rich creams and fine glitters ensure vivid, chip-resistant wear. Choose from a vast array of shades inspired by Marc’s favorite movies. A superior polish with an unprecedented finish and the shine of 30 coats of lacquer.

The custom, curve-hugging brush optimizes application and the curvature of the bottle resembles a smile. Each shade is 3-Free: formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP. Pictured above: “Shocking” (Opaque Muted Hot Pink) and “Glinda” (Silver Glitter). $22.00

Next, the Style Eye-Con No.3 is a petite set of three plush eye shadows that harmoniously marry with a creamy, sumptuous finish. “The Rebel” is pictured below: Warm Ivory/ Deep Hot Pink Sheen/ Matte Dark Grayish Purple.

Each mini palette of shimmery metallics, buttery mattes, and lustrous sheens are made with advanced pigments that allow true, instant color payoff and long-lasting, plush performance. Shades are cleverly sized to suit your eye shadow needs. Marc invites you to play and become your own Style Eye-Con. $50.00

Of course, you will fall in love with Marc’s irresistible, gellified lipstick. Full of pure pigment, this long-wearing lipstick has an irresistibly touchable texture. Unlike traditional waxy lipsticks, Lovemarc’s cutting-edge, gellified formula delivers the utmost in creaminess, comfort, and color payoff. An infusion of monoi butter – a velvety cream made from the tropical tiare flower – provides intense hydration, while myrrh extract works to reduce the signs of aging, and an innovative 3-D plumping agent adds gentle volume. Pictured Below: “Seduce Me” (Berry Red).

Subtly scented with vanilla, Lovemarc will be your new object of desire. $36.00

Finally, one of Marc’s favorite products, Remedy Concealer Pen is the perfect fix for the sins of a carefree youth or just the aftermath of last night. Formulated with advanced pigments, powerful antioxidants, and Remedy Complex – a unique blend of hydrating and anti-aging ingredients – this next-generation concealer brightens, hydrates, and soothes the skin while providing the coverage you need for a fresh, bright-eyed finish. The palladium applicator cools on contact to reduce puffiness and one click is all it takes for the perfect amount of product. Boy tested. Girl approved.

The two universal brightening and correcting shades flatter all skintones, while the versatile shade range complements most skintones. $47.00

Thank you for taking the time to collectively “oooh” and “ahhh” over this gorgeous designer collection. I’ll be back soon to show off some of my favourite items and provide a more in-depth review. However, as you all know, I’m a bit of a collector. So, I booted it to Sephora to pick up a two more Nail Laquers; Blue Velvet (Iridescent Deep Ocean Blue) and Lux (Opaque Chartreuse Yellow, pictured below).

Tell Me: Have you ever purchased a designer makeup collection, or fragrance?

Uhhh I think I’m in love. So posh, it’s no wonder you can’t stand to actually use them. As for your question, I wear Betsey Johnson Too Too Perfume.

At $50 per eyeshadow I don’t think I’d use the products either because I couldn’t afford to replace them! But I love that you have a fairy godmother and in that case I can’t wait to see your review (but I’ll forgive you if you want to covet for a bit longer)

that is so lucky! that’s pretty expensive nail polish and it doesn’t look like you get very much. I’ll stick to the cheap stuff until my girls know how to tighten a bottle and it doesn’t leak all over everything in their drawer or bag.

No can’t say that I have ever purchased a designer makeup or perfume. Now I was given a designer perfume years ago, I didn’t like it. I would hate to spend the money only to find out that I didn’t like the way it performed

Now that’s a colourful surprise for sure !! The only “designer” fragrances I bought were “Sung”, “Sung Pure” and “Eternity” (I think one was a gift). I don’t use much makeup or perfume, so haven’t bought anything for a while (last perfume purchase was Lise Watier Neiges Frisson).
Can’t wait to read your review of these products !

Instagram post 2198178178451471340_327607838 We've had a late start to decorating this holiday season, but every few days, we dress down in our comfiest clothes, turn up the Christmas carols and tackle another thing on our list! This past weekend the boys helped me put the finishing touches on our tree. Don't you just love our @UNIQLOCanada loungewear? Instagram post 2196198335807567733_327607838 The holidays are here, and what better way to share in the joy of the season than with a potluck! It’s the perfect way to celebrate togetherness, one dish at a time. Here are my best tips for hosting a fun potluck with friends:

1. Grab EVERYTHING you need from @walmartcanada. Yes, everything! Swipe ➡️ to see the amazing holiday-themed dishes and decor I purchased from my local store. From table runners to trays, serving dishes to sparkly ornaments, you'll be able to dress up your table in style while saving money.

2. Elevate your apps. I made a more grown-up spin on cheese and crackers by stacking flavourful Great Value Old Cheddar and Great Value Original Turkey Sausage Sticks on top of Great Value Wheat Thins - finishing with a sprinkle of chives. It's so simple to make and believe me when I say they go quickly, especially at parties!

3. Assign a variety of tastes, textures and flavours. This includes hot and cold appetizers, sweet and savoury sides and of course, make sure someone (or everyone) brings wine!

4. Use gift tags to describe the dishes. I lay out gift tags and a sharpie; as friends arrive, I ask them to write down their name and the name of the dish. Not only does it help at the end of the evening when it comes time to pack off the leftovers, it reduces the inevitable "What is this?" question from fellow guests.

Cheers to potluck perfection! #SpendSmallGiveBig #ad
Instagram post 2194764560406110512_327607838 How do you like your nuggets? I love mine hot, crispy and with "plantiful" flavour! Introducing @lightlifefoods Plant-Based Nuggets, now available for a limited time at @awcanada restaurants in Ontario and BC. These delicious nuggets are made entirely from plant-based ingredients right here in Canada, including peas, wheat and fava beans. Packed with 17g of plant-based protein per 6-piece serving, they're fun to eat and fun to share! Of course, now comes the big question: are you dipping them in Honey Mustard, Barbecue, Sweet & Sour or Jalapeno Ranch? I say, all four! Pop into your local A&W to try them! #LightlifexAW #ad
Instagram post 2194042482895765300_327607838 Experiences, not things. This holiday season, I’ve been focused on gifting experiences that can be shared with my loved ones. From adults-only travel adventures to one-on-one special time with each of my little guys, I’m convinced that the gift of time is the most priceless gift of all. Recently, I had an opportunity to enjoy a Priceless Experience with @mastercardca in one of their Priceless Cities, Miami. We sat at the executive chef's table at @three_wynwood and feasted on a tasting menu curated especially for Mastercard cardholders who book this experience. Instagram post 2192946946914561554_327607838 Each year, since the boys were very young, we've had a tradition: we head to @walmartcanada to choose a piece of holiday decor that gives them joy. It's usually an ornament, candle or stocking holder, but this year, Ryder and Reid both selected Nutcracker figurines. I love seeing the house filled with their beloved choices year after year. And since Walmart has so many seasonal goods at low prices, we never have to break the bank to create lasting memories. Because I always shop with my Walmart Rewards Mastercard, I was able to use my Walmart Rewards Dollars to pay for Ryder's Nutcracker figurine and got it for free! You can't put a price tag on holiday happiness, but our little tradition allows us to spend small and give big—exactly what the season is all about.

I'm ready for all the elements in my @UNIQLOCanada #HybridDown Ultra Warm Short Coat. It's actually UNIQLO’s warmest down outerwear! Filled with down and AIRTECH technology on the outside, I love that the non-quilted design reduces the bulk and gives a smooth, modern silhouette. #UNIQLOCanada #LifeWear #ad
Instagram post 2191865205067970587_327607838 It's time to Spark a Miracle! Here's a simple and rewarding way to #SpendSmallGiveBig this holiday season: when you purchase any toy for $20 or more at Walmart or online at Walmart.ca from December 3-8, @walmartcanada will donate $1 to Children’s Miracle Network, in support of @cmn_canada hospitals across Canada! You can also make a donation throughout the month of December in-store or online at Walmart.ca. My friend @extrasparklesplease and I think it's the perfect time to tackle our holiday shopping list, and hope we've inspired you to help #SparkAMiracle, too! #ad
Instagram post 2190201001911235541_327607838 *AD Blonde on the outside, but brunette at heart! ♥️ It doesn’t end there... although I’m in my 40’s, I’ll be forever 30 on the inside. Do you see yourself this way, too? Recently, I’ve found myself wondering if there was a way to align the way I look with the way I feel. Back in June I attended Beauty Decoded Live, an event by @JuvedermCanada. There, I learned about the science behind MD Codes and their role in addressing the emotional attributes of beauty, directly from Dr. Mauricio de Maio, *the* authority on cosmetic dermatology. How did the evening affect my views on facial fillers? Visit my blog to read my thoughts before, during and after the event. #JuvedermCanada #BeautyDecoded
