My Kids Gobble it Up

October 18, 2012 By Lena

Okay, so “gobble” was an artfully not-so-artfully placed pun.

But when it comes to Butterball Bacon Style Turkey, it’s true!

Here’s the dealio. I love me some bacon. It’s crispy, delicious, and it my mouth literally salivates when I smell it cooking. In fact, one of my favourite Seth Myers quotes is:

In an interview with a fashion industry website, Kate Moss said, ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”. Said the rest of the world, “BACON”.

Long-time readers of my blog will know I’ve got a preference for a certain Natural Selections kind of goodness. Alas, as much as I’d like to indulge on a fairly consistent basis, my waistline just can’t handle it (yet I’m not inclined to eliminate it altogether – sorry Kate Moss).

Hence, I love to switch things up with Butterball Bacon Style Turkey. It boasts 50% less fat than regular pork bacon, and is slowly smoked over hardwood chips to give authentic bacon flavour. What I love most? There’s practically no shrinking after cooking, and you’ll have ZERO fat on the pan when you’re done. That’s right; no messy goop left over – which means less messy goop in your arteries. Win-win!

Butterball Bacon Style Turkey is the perfect way to get the family off to a great start in the morning. Just two slices provides 19g of protein, which kids need to grow properly and stay healthy. And for Mom, the same serving size yields only 70 calories and 2g of saturated fat. (Another win-win? Indeed!)

When crafting this post, my intent was to do an awesome breakfast recipe – with the Bacon Style Turkey, Waffles, Fruit… you name it. But as I put the breakfast in front of the kiddos, there’s just one thing they “gobbled” up… the turkey bacon, of course!

They went on to eat the rest, but only after they had their fill of Bacon Style Turkey. Can’t say I blame them – it’s quite delish. (Side note – I was hoping to snag a piece – but by the time I put my camera away, it was g-o-n-e. Drat! Next time!)

Butterball Bacon Style Turkey can be substituted for pork bacon in all your favourite meals, including BLTs, bacon-wrapped chicken, pasta dishes and more. But for us, it’s perfect at breakfast. I know that the kids are getting valuable protein to start their day, and my hips aren’t mad at me after I indulge :)

I like turkey bacon occasionally but I didnt realize the protein content was that high! Good reason for me to have it more often I think.

Huguette and Margaret, it is the perfect substitute when you’re looking for a healthier alternative. And Lisa – I was surprised too when I saw the protein content! Amazing!

Turkey bacon is the only bacon our family likes! Had “real” bacon the other day – boy was it salty!

Hahaha I think all bacon is a little salty – that’s what makes it taste so good! But agreed, you taste more “meat” and less salt with the turkey bacon ;)

I love that it tastes great and it’s my fav for sandwiches and BLTs because it doesn’t shrink down. I hate trying to have a sandiwch with crinkled bacon!

Hear, Hear! I was actually shocked the first time I cooked it because I was waiting for it to shrink ;)

Gosh, I love me some bacon! I’ve had this before — it’s great on a BLT. I just wish I could cut some of the sodium out of my diet. Why, oh why, does everything that tastes good have to be so bad for you? At least this is a better option!

Haha Janice, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that there is no *perfect* food – especially if it’s great tasting. So yeah, high in sodium… but at least you save on the fat and calories!

I love turkey bacon! I made the switch a few years ago — it tastes great, and I feel better about indulging!

Looks good and I’d go for it, but I think it would be a hard sell for my husband. He’s definitely a full-fat bacon kind of guy.

I use to eat this all the time when I stopped eating most meat. But then I meet my husband. And he always use to make these sandwiches which I liked to call heartattack on a bun, and it was lots of bacon and cheese and egg. And it smelled soooo good cooking! So back to eating pork bacon I went.

I also love the Butterball Turkey dogs. Even better then hotdogs!!

I’m craving breakfast now!!! Butterball’s turkey bacon is some of the best bacon. It’s not too salty vs the pork version, and their turkey bacon is better than most brands. Now I have to go get some!

The butterball turkey bacon is a staple in our house – just as good as the real thing (IMO) but without the guilt :)

I know a lot of people like turkey bacon but I’m just not one of them and I really wanted to like. I even tried it several times but it just didn’t take for me.
